The Western Catchment Aboriginal Reference Advisory Group
The Western Catchment Aboriginal Reference Advisory Group was formed in September 2006 to formally discuss and coordinate activities that involve the Aboriginal community of the Western Catchment in improving natural resources (land, water, vegetation, cultural heritage and the variety of plants and animals in the catchment).
The group advises the Western CMA Board on how to ensure that decisions affecting the long-term sustainability of the environment are compatible with Indigenous culture and values.
We also provide input to identify areas of cultural significance as part of the High Conservation Values program.
Who we are and when we meet
We represent the majority of Aboriginal language groups and communities with large Aboriginal populations within the Western Catchment. We hold our meetings every three months in various locations around the Western Catchment to enable members to become familiar with issues in all areas of the Catchment.
We are highly regarded within our own communities and have a great depth of traditional knowledge, which is ued in the planning process to ensure a better use of on-ground works.
