The Western Catchment Management Authority (WCMA) has been established to ensure the local community has a significant say in how natural resources (land, vegetation, rivers, groundwater and biodiversity), are managed.
Western CMA Offices
Staff can provide assistance from five WCMA offices: Cobar (principal office), Bourke, Walgett, Broken Hill and Dubbo.
What do we do?
The WCMA is helping the local community to be actively involved in how its natural resources are managed. $23 million has been budgeted over a four year period. These funds are separate to the operating costs of the WCMA.
The WCMA is working with the community to manage:
- land and vegetation;
- rivers and groundwater
- cultural heritage, and
- biodiversity.
IIn order to do this:
- 80% of the $23 million allocated will be spent on on-ground works;
- 15% will be spent on education and training; and
- 5% will be spent on monitoring and evaluation.
How can we help you?
The WCMA can help local people by:
- making sure they have a say in what happens though the Western Catchment Plan;
- administering incentive funding for on-ground works and training that will improve natural resources in the catchment;
- managing native vegetation; and
- undertaking and coordinating broad-scale projects that are essential for the health of the catchment.
