Weeds
 |
| Mesquite |
Weed species, both noxious and exotic, can invade valuable grazing and agricultural land rendering it both unproductive and often unviable due to the costs of control. The impact of weeds on habitat value is also significant in the natural systems of the Western Catchment.
Pest Animals
Pest animal species, both native and exotic, can invade valuable grazing and agricultural land rendering it both unproductive and often enviable due to the costs of control. The impact of pest animals on the habitat values is also significant in the natural systems of the Western Catchment. This is a particular concern in relation to rabbits and goats across the landscape and pigs in the river and wetland systems.
Activities that will help achieve this management target include:
- Chemical spot treatment of mesquite
- Training to manage pests
- Landcare group treating a local garden escapee weed such as a cacti
- Sub-catchment fox baiting program
- Local community awareness program for Parthenium weed
